Train Set of Decay II

Installation and Photographs
2007

In the second iteration of the series, I adapted my miniature modeling techniques into an installation that was equally immersive but better suited for display in a formal gallery setting, with two compact scenes spread across two levels. The upper level focused on industrial loft architecture, influenced by scenes from Hunts Point in the Bronx and Sunset Park in Brooklyn and the broader postwar decline of American heavy industry. The lower level was a mixed-use neighborhood with tenements and an elevated subway line. When taking photographs of the installation, I experimented with moments of reveal, where the room subtly invaded the frame, creating a surprising negation of the otherwise self-contained scene.
